The aims of the Foundation –

with great commitment to the World Heritage in the Harz!


The Foundation Mines of Rammelsberg, Historic Town of Goslar and Upper Harz Water Management System, in short: Foundation for UNESCO World Heritage in the Harz, has the following tasks according to its constitution:

  • Participation in the preservation and presentation of the UNESCO World Heritage in the Harz
  • Coordination and performance of measures for the preservation and presentation of the UNESCO World Heritage in the Harz 
  • Advocacy for the protection and preservation of historic monuments as components of the UNESCO World Heritage in the Harz 
  • Support for the museums and other locations of the UNESCO World Heritage in the Harz that are used for museum purposes as well as other components and other
  • facilities serving the purpose of the foundation in order to bundle all synergetic forces. The foundation can thereby operate the facilities necessary for the fulfilment of these tasks. 
  • Presentation of the region as one of the most important historic cultural landscapes of Europe with exceptional qualities in the areas of culture
  • and nature for a sustainable and visitor-orientated presentation that does justice to the high value of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Harz
  • Creation and operation of World Heritage Information Centres
  • Scientific assessment of the World Heritage
  • Realization of cultural events 
  • Cooperation with national and international partners in the field of culture and science
