During the Advent season, the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Harz Mountains shines in Christmas splendor and invites visitors to atmospheric events and markets at various locations. Here are some of this year's highlights:
The magic of Christmas in the romantic Christmas forest in Goslar
From November 27 to December 30, 2024, the Christmas market and Christmas forest will take place in the historic old town of Goslar. The festively illuminated market square and the romantic Christmas forest at the Schuhhof invite you to linger with over 30,000 lights and 60 conifers. Visitors can indulge in culinary delights at the festively decorated wooden huts, discover arts and crafts and get in the mood for Christmas with mulled wine and sweet treats.

“All the best Christmas fun” with Uli Stein - Advent exhibition in the Kulturmarktplatz Goslar
With the start of the Goslar Christmas market on November 27, 2024, the exhibition “Allerbester Weihnachtsspaß” with cartoons by the late artist Uli Stein will begin. The humorous show with 50 Christmas cartoons will run until January 6, 2025 in the Kulturmarktplatz. The exhibition is a crowd-puller and offers a humorous look at the Christmas season.

Mining “Christmas shift” in the historic ambience of the Upper Harz Mining Museum
On November 30 and December 1, 2024, visitors can experience the Christmas “shift” at the Upper Harz Mining Museum in Clausthal-Zellerfeld. The Christmas market offers mulled wine, sweet treats and craft stalls in a special atmosphere. Guided tours through the illuminated show mine and an extensive program with music and lectures make the event a highlight.

St. Nicholas tour in the 19-Lachter gallery
On December 6, 2024, the 19-Lachter-Stollen in Clausthal-Zellerfeld invites you to a special underground tour. Under the motto “It's dark in front of the hoe”, participants can experience the atmosphere of the miners' historical working conditions up close. The typical “frog lamps” take you on a fascinating journey through time into the history of mining in the Harz Mountains. A unique experience for the whole family!

Musical Advent at Walkenried Monastery
On the 2nd weekend of Advent, December 7 and 8, 2024, the popular Christmas market will take place at Walkenried Monastery. Against the impressive backdrop of the medieval monastery, visitors can purchase handmade works of art and enjoy the special Advent program in the Cistercian Museum. Guided tours of the monastery and an Advent concert by the “dasXperiment” choir on December 7 round off the experience.

Christmassy Rammelsberg
On December 14 and 15, 2024, the Rammelsberg ore mine invites you to the “Christmas Rammelsberg”. More than 50 exhibitors, a colorful stage program and many hands-on activities await visitors above and below ground. The candle tours in the Roeder gallery are particularly atmospheric. A free shuttle will ensure a relaxed journey.

Twinkling lights in Christmassy Samson
On December 23, 2024, the Samson mine in St. Andreasberg invites you to a festive evening. From 18:00, the museum mine will be illuminated by 500 candles while visitors listen to the musical sounds of the Regional Heritage Association and the Forest Workers' Instrumental Music Society in this special atmosphere. Sausages, mulled wine and cold drinks are served. A special highlight is the demonstration of historical driving skills in operation.
