The 19-Lachter-Stollen –

an exciting destination for your excursion

The 19-Lachter-Stollen in Wildemann is the only water drainage gallery in the Harz that is accessible for visitors and will take you 500 metres into the hillside. Its construction was started in the 16th century. The drainage gallery was used to drain water out of the mines higher up in Zellerfeld and Clausthal. The focal theme of "depth" can be experienced with all the senses here: an impressive bi-directional waterwheel with a diameter of nine metres turns and you stand on a bridge and look down more than 260 metres into the atmospherically lit Ernst August Shaft from the 19th century.

As part of the project TRAFO: HARZ|MUSEUMS|WORLD HERITAGE TRANSFORMS A REGION the exhibition areas at the 19-Lachter-Stollen have been updated. You can get a first impression of the new elements of the exhibition in the videos below, or directly join a guided tour.

Video 1: Overview – What is "Markscheidekunst" (mine surveying) and how long is a "Lachter"? Find out the answers …
Video 2: Highlight – Breathtaking – look down into the 261-metre-deep Ernst August Shaft!

In the exhibition, the mode of function of a drainage gallery and much more is explained.
